My Background
Education and Experience
I graduated with my Bachelor of Education in 1986 and my Special Ed Certificate in 2002, both from the University of Manitoba. I have 27 years experience teaching K-9 in Canada and in the United States; 22 of those years were spent as a resource teacher working with children with learning and behavioural challenges. I myself was a struggling learner in my early years and know how it feels.
My Methodology
Student-Centered
I build a personalized program based on your child's individualized needs. Collaboration with your child's school and teacher is important to me. I want to ensure the skills your child learns with me will transfer to the classroom. In order to achieve this, I will use a variety of research-based strategies from an assortment of effective programs. As much as possible, I like to include hands-on activities and games because I believe learning should be fun and rewarding!
Educational Support
If your Gr. 1-6 child is struggling in school, especially in the areas of Reading/Writing or Math, I can help close the gap between your child and the other students in their grade. If you struggle to help your child do their homework because it is so stressful, I can help there too. I have worked with countless students on improving their skills and increasing their learning capacity.
